The Agronomy Specialist role is a chief driver in the Canola Council of Canada’s goal to reach 26 million tonnes of canola sustainably by 2025, executing on the Canola Council of Canada’s strategic plan.

The Role

This important technical position is unique, fast-paced, and rewarding. The Agronomy Specialist is primarily responsible for managing efforts directly related to canola production and research priority areas, supporting the Canola Council’s overall activities and territory support. Reporting to the Agronomy Director, this position will work collaboratively with the CCC team to support the value chain in improving the supply of canola sustainably and profitably.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Participate as a member of the Crop Production Team in developing information, best management practices and services to support canola growers and industry throughout the canola growing region.
  • Maintain a network of canola growers, local agronomists, and researchers in an assigned territory.
  • Provide advice and diagnostics services to growers and agronomists in the region to enhance territory and professional canola agronomic expertise.
  • Work with CCC programs, CCC members, retail agronomists and provincial grower commissions to educate growers, agronomists, and researchers on canola best management practices.
  • Provide agronomic and research support to canola research, and to encourage research proposal development in territory.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education with an undergraduate or graduate degree in agriculture, economics or relevant science field; a Masters in Pathology considered an asset.
  • Proven ability to build strong supporting relationships with industry, growers, and the research community.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of crop production and sustainability issues; canola production expertise considered an asset.
  • Must be highly organized, able to prioritize and manage multiple projects and programs.
  • Excellent communication (presentation, writing, editing).
  • Team player; strong collaborative and negotiating skills.
  • This position requires registration with the Agrologists Institute in Manitoba.

Salary commensurate with experience, qualifications and ability.
