Recognition Awards

Purpose

The objectives of the recognition award program are to:

  • Recognize behaviour that exemplifies the best of what is expected by the Manitoba public of an agrology professional
  • Foster public understanding of the agrology professional’s role in Manitoba society
  • Inspire excellence through leadership in the professional practice of agrology
  • Identify agrology professionals who have positively influenced agrology practice in Manitoba and elsewhere
  • Identify agrology professionals who have contributed more than anyone could ask and who inspire others in the pursuit of excellence.

Categories

Manitoba agrology professionals now have a program where they can nominate a peer who has made or is making an outstanding contribution around in the province in areas such as contribution to the agrology profession, improving outcomes for the people of Manitoba and Canada, agrology awareness, and outstanding professional leadership.  There are two award categories:

Nomination Criteria

  1. Behaviors or actions that directly relate to and/or demonstrate professional attributes for the nominee, as described in the Code of Ethics. Behaviors or activities should clearly demonstrate that they are in the public interest.
  2. Potential behaviors could be activities such as mentorship and support to young agrologists; ethics; excellence in communicating professional roles and values; exemplary contributions to a nominee’s area of professional practice; exemplary contributions to the citizens of Manitoba, nationally and/or internationally as the case may be.
  3. Nominees who qualify should be practicing registrants of Agrologists Manitoba (only) and may be associated with non-regulated entities, such as not-for-profit organizations or corporations. Note that the intent is to recognize leaders as opposed to the not-for-profit organizations or companies themselves.

Process

  • Selection is by an impartial group of peers
  • Nominees will not be notified prior to selection confirmation
  • Council will confirm selections
  • Council per se shall not submit a nomination but can provide suggestions to the selection team

Eligibility

  1. Nominee must have had full P.Ag. or Tech.Ag. status for at least 10 years. Nominee must be a practicing registrant of Agrologists Manitoba or have been registered within 12 months of ceasing to be registered.
  2. Nominee must have made a contribution of noteworthy significance to Manitoba agriculture, natural resources and environmental sciences, or to the public through an exemplary contribution to the public interest. The award may be given for a current (within the last 3 years) outstanding achievement or for distinguished achievement over a career. In either case, achievement should be sufficiently meritorious to have resulted in a definite contribution to agriculture and natural resource science in Manitoba.
  3. There are no identifiable factors or limitations that would automatically negate an award selection, albeit all nominations will be vetted through Council.

Nomination Evaluation Criteria

  1. Contribution to agriculture, natural resources and environmental science reflected in professional achievement.

Outstanding achievements may result from administration, extension, research, teaching and/or professional affiliation with Agrologists Manitoba where the individual has produced products such as improved policies to the agricultural, natural resource and environmental communities, successful extension projects, research results (both quality and quantity) or other innovations.

Other important criteria are proven leadership and effective influence through professional participation that has enhanced agriculture and natural resource science in Manitoba.
  2. General stature among peers and the agricultural, natural resources and environmental science communities.
  3. Service to the profession at branch and provincial levels. The number of elected positions, length of service, and volunteer participation in Agrologists Manitoba affairs are all criteria by which to assess service to the profession.
  4. Recognition and awards already received. Includes both professional awards and other recognition outside the nominee’s immediate professional sphere.
