The Manager – Crop Production position is located in Carman, MB.
The Manager – Regional Extension position is located in Winnipeg, Brandon, or Carman, MB.
The Manager – Plant Health Diagnostic is located in Winnipeg or Carman, MB.
Other Manitoba Agriculture locations may be considered.

The department is currently looking to fill three (3 positions): Manager – Plant Health and Diagnostics, Manager – Regional Extension and Manager – Crop production

Conditions of Employment:
• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
• Must be a member of the Manitoba Institute of Agrologist with a Professional Agrologist (P. Ag) designation, or eligible for membership with the ability to obtain the P.Ag designation once hired.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Manitoba class 5 driver’s licence.
• Access to a personal vehicle for business purposes to attend meetings and other work locations as required.
Qualifications:
Essential:
• Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, or related discipline. An equivalent combination of education and extensive western Canadian agriculture experience may be considered.
• Experience in Plant Health and Diagnostic Management and/or western Canadian agriculture production and design and implementation of modern extension policies and programs. (Applicable for Manager – Plant Health and Diagnostics)
• Experience working with western Canadian agricultural principles, practices, and technologies related to crop production, livestock management, soil health, pest and disease management, and sustainable agriculture practices and design and implementation of modern extension policies and programs. (Applicable for Manager – Regional Agriculture Extension)
• Extensive experience and expertise in the crop industry including, but not limited to: crop production, crop protection, diagnostics, surveillance, provincial and federal legislation, modern extension programming. (Applicable for Manager – Crop Production)
• Experience in strategic planning and project management with the ability to lead multi-stakeholder groups to achieve project objectives within pre-determined deadlines.
• Demonstrated Political acumen with experience providing strategic advice to senior leaders on complex topics and sensitive issues.
• Supervisory experience, which includes but is not limited to: leading, planning, coaching and performance management.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to building and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Excellent written communication skills.
• Excellent verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Desired:
• Master’s or doctoral degree in Agriculture or related discipline.
Duties:
The Manager of Plant Health and Diagnostics is responsible to lead and manage the section, oversee the administration of the section’s programs, and provide advice on technical issues and support to the Director of Agriculture Production. Efforts are focused on the development and management of programs, policies, regulations, and development/extension of relevant materials to increase resilience and sustainability of the crop sector.
The Manager of Regional Agriculture Extension is responsible to lead and manage the section, oversee the administration of the sections programs, and provide advice and guidance on knowledge transfer to the Director of Science, Innovation and Extension. Efforts are focused on the development and implementation of agricultural extension programs to address the needs of farms and rural communities within regions of Manitoba, resource management, building and maintaining stakeholder relationships, data collection and reporting to measure impact of extension programs, training and education and supporting policy and program development for the agricultural sector.
The Manager of Crop production is responsible for providing management and leadership to the section, advice on technical issues, and administers and oversees the administration of the section’s programs. The incumbent leads and supports the implementation and co-ordination of strategic and business plans and the extension of programs related to the continued development and advancement of a profitable and sustainable industry.
