Paul Westdal, MSc., P.Ag.

Paul is an Agriculture Consultant based in Winnipeg.

Paul graduated from the University Manitoba with a Masters degree in Agriculture Economics. He joined the Canadian Wheat Board directly on graduation, working in Sales and Market Development in Winnipeg, and as Manager of the Board office in London, UK.

Taking a sabbatical from the CWB, he spent two years in Senegal West Africa on assignment with the United Nations World Food Program. As a WFP Field Officer, he assisted in the coordination and distribution of food aid to drought-stricken populations in the Sahel region.

Returning to Canada, he joined the Canadian International Grains Institute Director of Marketing. In this position he was responsible for development c curriculum and delivery of grain marketing Risk Management programs, and related activities at the Institute.

Following his term at CIGI, he accepted a position with Agri-Tec lnternational, a consortium of Canadian Grain construction and equipment companies, seeking to expand into export markets. As President of the Consortium, Paul was successful in securing several international turnkey projects for the group in Eurasia.

He co-founded a biotechnology company focused on adding value to Canadian field crops, developing technology for the extraction and isolation of protein from Canola meal. The technology being deployed at the Merit Functional Foods pea and canola protein commercial-scale production facility in Winnipeg.

Paul is Director Emeritus of Burcon NutraScience. He is a cofounder and President of TheoryMesh, an Ag Tech company developer of software platforms for Food and Agriculture supply chains. He continues to mentor entrepreneurs and support embryonic technology start ups.


He is a member of the Governance Committee of the Manitoba Institute of Agrologists .
